The Director General of the National Sports College (NSC) in Winneba, Eric Nkansah Dwamena, has stated that the college would soon run courses in Sports Administration and Management.

He mentioned that the first beneficiaries of such course would be officers from the Security Services Sports Association (SESSA).

He said the course which will be held from next month will give the officers an opportunity to upgrade their knowledge in sports administration and management especially when they are preparing for their SESSA Games.

The Director General mentioned this in an interview with The Finder at his office in Winneba after organising the college’s first course in the year in physical fitness.

He said the college will later organise a similar course in sports administration and management for civilians especially officials from the various National Federations.

He it would also be opened to members from the Ghana Olympic Committee (GOC), National Sports Authority (NSA) and the Ministry of Youth and Sports (MoYS).

He noted that this concentration on improving the quality of human resources in the sports industry is to augment government’s effort of hosting a successful 2023 Africa Games.

He said the National Sports College is ready to take up the challenge of getting modern sports administrators in the country which is part of their core mandate.

The College was established by the erstwhile PNDC Government in 1984 under S.M.C. Decree No.54, 1976.

At the time of its establishment, Ghana’s performance in sports at the international level was experiencing a downward slide as a result of the exodus of the sectors technical and human resource for greener pastures.

The College accordingly was charged with the responsibility of training and re-training the country’s technical and human resource in the Sports sector to fill the vacancies created by the exodus of our trained and skilled officials to sustain the development and promotion of Sports in Ghana.
