2015 UPAC Championship to start on Feb 28

Some of the biggest names in the men’s game at the tertiary level are gearing themselves in preparations to punch a ticket for the 2015 UPAC Basketball Championship.

Twenty-one tertiary institutions comprising Universities, Polytechnics and Colleges across the regions will square off to determine the best in basketball at the tertiary level.

Accra dominates the pack with as many as twelve institutions gearing up for the big showdown which starts from February 28.

This year’s championship has been grouped in three zones with Accra, Cape Coast and Kumasi playing host to their respective championships.

Fans are already relishing the prospect of some serious heavyweight match-up which features an array of talent that illuminated the mini UPAC basketball championship.

The University of Ghana, University of Professional Studies, Accra Polytechnic, Marshalls University College, Wisconsin University College, Central University College and Ho Polytechnic amongst others make up zone 1.

The rest include Koforidua Polytechnic, Pentecost University College, Ashesi University, Ghana Institute of Management and Public Administration (GIMPA) and Ghana Telecom University.

The zone 2 block has teams from the Central region and its environs competing with Cape Coast University, Cape Coast Polytechnic, Takoradi Polytechnic and University of Education, Winneba wrapping up the zone.

The final zone 3 has the Ashanti block with Kumasi Polytechnic playing host to Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology, Christian University College, Garden University College and University of Development Studies.

Gunning for a second successive title, current holders Accra Polytechnic are still being led by the successful infusion of current national MVP Baniba Dodzie, Daniel Aryee and Nicholas Amuzu who continues to propel the team on the floor.

The defending champions will be red-hot favourites to make the title game again as they go up against some of the emerging institutions in the West African country.

Yet they can’t be discounted from causing an upset as they can call upon the services of a several players who helped them win the championship in 2011.

It certainly promises to be a highly entertaining run down on the UPAC  season stretch during the two months championship.
