
Badminton: Ghana wins 29 medals at Grand Slam Championships
Ghana's emerging Badminton stars made history at the just-ended Badminton Grand Slam Championship at the Borteyman Sports Complex, capturing an impressive 29 medals.
The star-studded team, once again flying the nation’s flag high, delivered a remarkable performance to finish the event on top with 12 gold medals.
The event, which featured five contested tournaments, attracted participation from some of the continent's best sides but it was Ghana that dominated all events.
Obampo Adu-Mintah and Moslena Ama Koramah Adu kicked off the campaign in style, delivering outstanding performances in the All-African Junior Individual and Mixed events to secure gold medals for Ghana.
The duo swept five gold medals and a silver to give the West African giants an impressive start.
The hosts further showcased their strength in the African U-15 Air Badminton Championships, claiming three gold medals and bringing their total haul to nine.
Ghana’s squad continued their medal-winning streak in other events, concluding their campaign with two bronze medals in the women’s doubles, courtesy Moslena Adu and Rachael Quarcoo, and Jessica Lomotey and Charity Naah who were paired together.
Mr. Richard Akpokavie, President of the Ghana Olympic Committee (GOC), in a statement commended the team for their resilience, discipline, and fighting spirit shown at the championship.
He expressed excitement having seen the Ghanaian side dominate other big wigs on the continent as a result of consistent preparation and hard work by the athletes.
