Scotland, Glasgow. - Team Ghana has safely arrived in Glasgow, Scotland, on Tuesday ahead of the 2026 Commonwealth Games, with athletes, coaches and officials focused to deliver podium performances and make Ghana proud. The delegation received a warm welcome upon arrival by Ghana’s Chef De Mission, Ernest Danso and immediately began settling into the allocated Games hotels ahead of the start of competition.

The Ghanaian contingent, comprising athletes competing in Athletics, Para Athletics, Boxing, Cycling, Judo, Weightlifting, Swimming, Para Swimming, and Para Powerlifting, enters the Games following months of intensive preparation, training camps and qualification events in Ghana, Derby Arena in the United Kingdom and Ireland. The team, made up of a blend of experienced campaigners who have competed on major international stages and promising young athletes making their Commonwealth Games debut, creates a balance of experience, ambition and fresh energy. 

Among the athletes expected to glow for Ghana in Glasgow are some of the nation's established stars and emerging talents, including sprinter and team captain Joseph Paul Amoah, Ghana’s 100m record holder, blaster Saminu Abdul-Rasheed, para cyclist, Botso Nkegbe, baton bearer Haruna Tahiru, alongside other determined members of the national team across all the disciplines. The athletes are expected to complete their final acclimatization sessions before competition begins on Friday, with confidence high throughout the camp as they seek to make their mark across the nine disciplines.

Team Manager Richard Quarcoo expressed satisfaction with the team's arrival and overall condition, saying the delegation is focused and ready for the challenge ahead. "We have arrived safely, the athletes are in good spirits and everyone understands the responsibility that comes with wearing the national colours. We have prepared well and our objective is to compete fearlessly and fight for podium places. We ask Ghanaians everywhere to keep believing in and supporting Team Ghana," he said.

President of the Commonwealth Games Association of Ghana, Richard Akpokavie, described the team's arrival as the beginning of Ghana's quest for excellence at the Games. He commended the athletes and technical officials for their dedication throughout the preparation period and urged them to remain disciplined and united.

"Our preparations have been deliberate and athlete-centred. We are confident that Team Ghana possesses the quality, resilience and determination to compete with the very best in the Commonwealth. We are here to represent Ghana with honour and to return home with performances that will make every Ghanaian proud," Akpokavie stated.

The CGA President also acknowledged continuos support of the Government of Ghana, the Ministry responsible for Sports & recreation, corporate partners like GCB Bank PLC, Eeezy Group Foundation and stakeholders whose contributions have made the team's participation possible. He revealed that the Minister for Sports and Recreation, Hon. Kofi Adams, Ghana's High Commissioner to the United Kingdom, and members of Parliamentary Select Committee on Sports are expected to visit and interact with Team Ghana in Glasgow to encourage the athletes ahead of their respective competitions. According to him, the visit confirms the nation's collective commitment to supporting the team in its quest for podium finishes and bringing glory to Ghana.

With training now shifting to the final technical phase, coaches are fine-tuning strategies while athletes familiarize themselves with competition venues. The delegation remains optimistic that the thorough preparations undertaken over the past months will translate into medal-winning performances.

Ghana heads into the Games determined to add to its proud Commonwealth Games legacy, with expectations high across several disciplines. The athletes are motivated by the pursuit of medals and the opportunity to inspire the next generation of sportsmen and women back home.
