Accra - Veteran sports administrator and Ghana Olympic Committee (GOC) Board Member, Richmond Quarcoo, has been appointed Chef de Mission for Ghana’s delegation to the 2028 Olympic Games in Los Angeles, United States of America.

The appointment adds another major responsibility to an illustrious sports administration career spanning several decades and covering national, continental and international assignments. Quarcoo, a former athlete and coach for Tale Tennis, has served Ghana sport in several capacities and is currently the President of the Ghana Squash Association, as well as a National Course Director and author.

His experience in sports governance includes serving as former President of the Ghana Table Tennis Association, Vice President of the Ghana Triathlon Association, Greater Regional Chairman and Deputy Secretary General of the Ghana Olympic Committee. He has also served as Secretary General of the Squash Federation of Africa and Vice President of the Africa Zone 3 Table Tennis Association.

Richard Quarcoo is also a founding member of the Ghana Rowing Association, reflecting his contribution to the development and expansion of sporting disciplines in the country. His extensive experience across different sports has placed him in a unique position to understand the technical, administrative and logistical demands associated with managing elite athletes and national teams.

His appointment as Chef de Mission for Los Angeles 2028 is also backed by considerable experience at previous Olympic Games. He served as Deputy Chef de Mission for Ghana at the London 2012 Olympic Games and again held the same position at the Rio 2016 Olympic Games in Brazil.

Beyond the Olympics, Quarcoo has held several leadership positions at major international multi-sport competitions. He was General Team Manager for Ghana at the 2014 Commonwealth Games in Glasgow, Chef de Mission at the 2014 Africa Youth Games in Botswana and Chef de Mission at the 2015 Commonwealth Youth Games in Samoa.

He also served as Chef de Mission for Ghana at the 2019 Africa Games in Morocco and, in another return to the Commonwealth Games, was appointed General Team Manager for Ghana at the 2026 Commonwealth Games in Glasgow. These assignments have given him extensive experience in athlete management, delegation coordination, competition logistics and international sports relations.

With the Los Angeles 2028 Olympic Games now added to his impressive list of national assignments, Richmond Quarcoo will, as Chef de Mission, provide overall leadership and coordination for Ghana’s Olympic delegation. His responsibilities will include working with the Ghana Olympic Committee, national federations, athletes and officials to support the team’s preparations, welfare, logistics and participation at the Games. The appointment further highlights his wealth of experience in Olympic and multi-sport event management and places an experienced sports administrator at the helm of Team Ghana’s preparations for Los Angeles 2028.
