TEAM GHANA READY TO STORM GLASGOW! CGA CONFIRMS PARTICIPATION FOR 2026 COMMONWEALTH GAMES
ACCRA, GHANA — The Commonwealth Games Association (CGA) of Ghana has officially confirmed that the nation’s finest sports contingent, affectionately known as Team Ghana, will lift high the flag of the republic at the upcoming 2026 Commonwealth Games in Glasgow, Scotland.
At a media launch for Team Ghana’s Glasgow 2026 campaign, the Commonwealth Games Association of Ghana enumerated the various plans for Team Ghana as they prepare for the quadrennial global event. it was a star-studded assembly of the upper echelon of Ghanaian sports leadership, policy drivers, and legendary sporting icons. The high-profile guests in attendance who graced the head seat and special gallery included former Commonwealth Gold Medalist Prof. Azumah Nelson, Former Bronze Medalist Magaret Simpson, Director General Yaw Ampofo Ankrah, President for the Africa Paralympic Committee, Mr. Samson Deen, former athlete Eric Nkansah and many other national sports federation heads
Addressing the heavily packed auditorium, the presidentg of the CGA Ghana, President Richard Akpokavie, unveiled the official battle cry for the 2026 campaign: "Team Ghana, From Ghana to Glasgow for Gold!"
The slogan, which quickly caught fire across national social media spaces, represents a direct journey of pure ambition, connecting the very soil of the motherland straight to the podium in Scotland. It is a unifying declaration that every single selected athlete, regardless of their discipline, is moving with one clear destination and one clear purpose.
In a strategic departure from overloaded sports delegations of the past, CGA Ghana revealed that the nation is fielding a streamlined, high-performance squad. Following strict technical qualification metrics, Team Ghana will comprise a lean contingent of elite athletes flanked by a highly specialized technical team of coaches, medical staff, and trainers.
Ghana will be fiercely contesting for honors across carefully selected high-performance sports codes where the country holds a proven track record of regional and international capability. The competitive focus for the Glasgow campaign will be Athletics (13), Boxing (10), Judo (2) Para Athletics (3), Para Powerlifting (1), Para Swimming (1) Swimming (4), Track Cycling (2) and Weightlifting (2)
The confirmation of Team Ghana's participation comes on the heels of a passionate national advocacy drive led by CGA President, Mr. Richard Akpokavie, Esq., who has consistently called on corporate Ghana and state policymakers to expand their financial focus towards the CGA.
The CGA leadership maintains that a structural, balanced approach to corporate sponsorship will ensure that thousands of brilliant young athletes from Gambaga to Accra, and from Wiawso to Keta, receive the premium resource-backing they deserve to stand tall as national heroes.
In what is set to be a major highlight of the campaign, the CGA has officially announced the establishment of "Ghana House" in the heart of Glasgow for the duration of the games.
Ghana House will not only serve as the operational headquarters for the delegation but will double as a vibrant cultural hub and a strategic business lounge. It is designed to be a premier meeting ground where international corporate partners, diplomats, tourists, and the global Ghanaian diaspora can converge to celebrate rich Ghanaian heritage, explore sports tourism, and network for future athletic investments.
Honorable Kofi Adams, representing the state, passionately charged the entire populace to cast aside institutional differences and rally wholeheartedly behind Team Ghana. He emphasized that the global showcase is a matter of national pride, requiring a unified front from every citizen to push our athletes toward historic victories in Scotland.
Mr. Mawuko Afadzinu made a direct, urgent appeal to corporate Ghana. He stressed that sports development and elite global campaigns can no longer be left on the shoulders of the state alone. Mr. Afadzinu reminded corporate institutions that government resources are overstretched, making it absolutely vital for private enterprises to step up, take ownership, and aggressively invest in the Glasgow campaign to guarantee podium success.
